Concussion Project
This was a personal project done to explore and later expose what it feels like be a committed competitive athlete and suffer from its injuries. It is a beautiful chaos so often difficult to understand. I was a competitive ice hockey player through college with my final stats including 4-5 ish concussions. With that said, I do not regret playing any minute of any day, but in hindsight it is frustrating to understand the process that got me to this point of recovery. The main emotion depicted through this series is frustration. The darkness symbolizes what part of the recovery took to heal the brain — feeling imprisoned at times, but also strong enough to fight through it. The blue color and contrast exists to emulate an x-ray. Usually, if you are injured you can see exactly what broke and how to fix it, but the brain is a completely different story. In the end, I went to physical therapy and made a full recovery from my last concussion in 2018.
